Can bees feel pain?
This is an interesting question. Some conclude that insects are unlikely to experience pain and cannot perceive their own welfare state. Animal welfare involves the five freedoms which state that animals should be free from:
1. Hunger, thirst and an improper diet
2. Thermal and physiological discomfort
3. Pain, injury or disease
4. Anxiety and chronic stress
5. Limitations on the natural behaviour (Somerville 2015).
I too, believe that these five freedoms apply to our bees as well. What are your thoughts?
